In 2005, Lead and Learn was introduced globally to outline ways in which we can enhance our culture of working together to realise and deliver 'Value through Innovation'.
We believe each one of us has the potential to create value through leading and learning. Lead and Learn is about attitude, behaviour and getting results. This initiative is enabled and driven by four questions:
Our company culture 'Lead and Learn' is not just a catch-phrase. It is inherent in each and every employee at Boehringer Ingelheim who are challenged to ask themselves these four questions everyday.
Our Active Leadership program was created, designed and sponsored by the Australian and New Zealand Boehringer Ingelheim Management Committee. It's purpose is to better implement Lead and Learn throughout the company as well as develop and build leaders from within.
An intensive program, it challenges our employees to take a holistic look at themselves, their actions and the company to help them develop strategic capabilities and skills.
The only program of its kind in the Boehringer Ingelheim group of companies, our Active Lead and Learn Leadership Program has been running for two years, achieving excellent results for staff and our Company. It is one of the most successful and popular development programs we have on offer.

So central are the Lead and Learn behaviours to the way we operate, that Boehringer Ingelheim Australia and New Zealand run a comprehensive Awards program which aims to encourage, reward and recognise those who exemplify our Lead and Learn behaviours and values .
Each quarter, staff are encouraged to nominate colleagues they believe are going 'above and beyond' in their day-to-day activities. At our annual staff 'Value through Innovation' Day, an overall Lead and Learn winner is announced, celebrated and rewarded.
